Bird Sanctuary
Target Market
Types of Bird Sanctuaries
Expertise needed
This is one of the ideas for our Innovation Adventure. This idea could work well because bird sanctuaries are needed a lot in South Wales. They provide new homes to abandoned birds and those rescued from treacherous settings, and taken care of until they are healthy.
Seabird Sanctuaries
Birds of prey Sanctuaries
Wild bird Sanctuaries
Owl Sanctuaries
The target market for donations would be inclusive of everyone. However, I believe that it would be more likely for people look after birds or have birds as pets, or animal lovers in general to donate to the bird shelter.
Unique Selling Point - Bird Sanctuaries
The target market for rehoming birds that have been nursed back to health would be targeted at people who have an interest in birds, those who have previously had a pet bird, or those who simply want to have a pet bird and have done research on owning a bird. However, for birds who may need extra help in being brought back to health, the target market would be bird specialists or those equipped with a good knowledge and understanding of birds, with plenty of previous experience of looking after them.

Funding
Current Trends
We can make use of current trends on social media to support funding, by spreading awareness of the business on social media platforms such as Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook.
Having a presence on Social Media and posting videos, stories and posts daily of the Bird Sanctuary can help to grow the business and spread awareness. It can be much more effective than using traditional marketing.
The sanctuary would need to be large in advance of birds going into rehabilitation. There would have to be many aviaries, both indoor and outdoor, big and small due to the different sizes, health and habitats of the birds. Hurt birds can revive faster in incubators, which will need to be provided.
This business idea will be run using donations and earnings from charity events or sponsors. It could be funded through events such as cake sales, meet-and-greets with birds or merchandise sale events.
For staff and bird treatment nurses, expertise needed includes a knowledge, understanding and background in animal care and bird care.
As designers of the bird sanctuary we want to ensure the safety of the birds from the moment they come in, and as they are being brought back to health. We would also like to ensure the safety of the volunteers or staff, as well as the safety of potential rehoming adopters and customers.
There are many marketing strategies we can use to help people to develop a love for birds, specifically our birds that need rehoming. Firstly, we could host face-to-face meet-and-greets with some of the trained birds to get possible adopters to have a fun first experience. We would also create a fun, 30-second advert to advertise the sanctuary on TV using charity funding, explaining some of the stories of the birds and their journeys in the sanctuary.

Competition
There is not much competition for bird sanctuaries in South Wales. There are rescues such as RSPB and the Welsh Wildlife Centre, as well as birdwatching places.
