The Government
Local Government:
Provinces are divided into Municipalities
Objectives:
Accountable to the provincial government
Ensure services are provided (Water, Electricity,
Transport, Hospitals and clinics, Police (SAPS),
Education)
Promote social and economic development.
Provincial Government:
Lead by a Premier
Each provincial government has its own
legislative branch.
Follow laws of the National Government
Report back to the National Council of
Provinces (NCOP)
The government has 3 sectors: Legislative branch; Executive Branch; Judicial Branch
Judicial Branch - keep the countries laws; the courts and police.
Executive Branch - the president and other places like, leads the country.
Legislative branch - Make new laws, change the old, can't change the constitution.
The governments' responsibilities
Keep infrastructure working, make sure the law is kept, and to make new laws for new technologies.
Infrastructure includes hospitals, schools, roads, electricity and water.
