Religion & Life
Genesis :star:
How is this story understood?
Some people believe it's literally true
God = all powerful ---> easy to believe he did all this in seven days
Some believe it's true but not literally
Simplified version of what happened
Uses the knowledge and language of the time
It's about the message God (the creator) made the world deliberately - not an accident or chaos
Humans were created in God's image so are given a purpose to live by God
Can we believe in science or religion or both?
Some believers ---> we only need religion
Genesis = accurate, God created the world in seven days because he can do anything
Humans need to believe, not understand
Accepting scientific view is impossible with this interpretation of Genesis
Some accept the scientific view and think the religious view is nonsense
Origins of the universe
The Big Bang Theory :explode:
Universe began 20 billion years ago
Nothing and then a huge explosion that made clouds of dust & gas that formed the universe over time
Earliest signs of life appeared millions of years before the land and sea settled
Earth was covered in hot liquids, chemicals, minerals, proteins and amino acids - we call this a primordial soup
Primordial soup fused to give the first life forms - all life developed from this, including humans
Evolution :silhouette:
The work of Charles Darwin
A natural scientist who wrote The Origin of Species
The world is a place of change
The huge variety of creatures is the result of years of adaption (revolution)
Climates, resources and habitat means there is a struggle for survival as species may become extinct if they fail to adapt
Survival of the fittest - Natural Selection
Species adapt based on their environment
Creatures live in appropriate environments across the world based on how they are adapted
Adaption is the key
This theory suggests religion is wrong to think that creatures were designed to look as they do in the present
A God of creation does not fit with this theory
Perhaps science is part of God's creation
