quadratic equations and quadratic functions
factorisation method: completing the square
adding (b/2)^2 then minus (b/2)^2 to form a complete square of (x+p)^2+q
fractional equation to quadratic equations:
make sure to make dominator the same before bringing the number over.
if it is like e.g 3a/6b - 8a/18x =0 you can just bring the -8a/18x over and cross multiply
solving quadratic equations:
using completing the square method
(x+p)^2=k
bring ^2 over : x+p=(plus minus) square root k
bring p over to find either x=
or x=
using quadratic formula:
x=-(b)+-(b^2-4(a)(c)/2(a)
either x=
or x=
graphical method:
in chapter 5
sketching graphs of quadratic equations
X intercept occurs when y=0
(x+p)^2=k
bring over ^2 so x+p = plus minus square root k
bring p over and find either x=
_ or x=__
y intercept occur when x=0
e.g y= (x-1)^2+2 y intercept is (-1)^2 +2 =3
turning point is in between two x intercepts and at the the lowest point.
when the coefficent of x^2 >0 : maximum point
when coefficent of x^2 <0 it has a minimum point
line of symmetry is a line down the x axis the make the two sides symmetrical.
