        This is an allusion to the incident in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox intentionally lost the World Series in exchange for money, an undertaking actually organized by Arnold Rothstein.
- - - - Daisy Buchanan- She is married to Tom, but they are not happy together. They are a wealthy family. She used to be in love with Jay Gatsby, and they rekindled the flame, but ultimately she ended things with Gatsby to stay with Tom.
        
        Tom Buchanan- He is a wealthy man. He is married to Daisy. He has had many affairs in his marriage. He is a strong, powerful man that has many opinions in life. A lot of them being racist.
        
        Myrtle Wilson- She is the wife of George Wilson. She is the mistress to Tom Buchanan. She gets killed by car driven by Daisy, but Gatsby takes the blame for it.
        
        Jordan Baker- Professional golfer of questionable integrity. Friend of Daisy's who, like Daisy, represents women of a particular class. Jordan is the young, single woman of wealth, admired by men wherever she goes. She dates Nick casually, but seems offended when he is the first man not to fall for her charms. Although she is savvy, she comes off as somewhat shallow in her approach to life.
        
        Mr. Gatz- He is Jay Gatsby's Dad. He was one of the only ones to come to Gatsby's funeral.
        
        George Wilson- He is the husband of Myrtle Wilson. He own an auto-shop outside of town. Him and his wife live above their auto shop. He is the one that shoots Jay Gatsby in hos pool for "killing" his wife.
