Central Dogma
RNA
mRNA
Messenger RNA
Carries a message based off of the DNA
rRNA
Ribosomal RNA
Helps makes proteins
tRNA
Transfer RNA
Transfers amino acids to match the correct mRNA codon
Found in all living organisms(inside and out of nucleus)
Ribose
Nitrogenous base (pairs)
A to U
.
Phosphate group
Translation
Initiation
Start codon AUG binds to ribosome subunits to form the ribosome
Elongation
tRNA moves from A site to P site and an amino acid is added to the polypeptide chain
After amino acid is removed, the tRNA moves to the E site and leaves the ribosome
Termination
Stop codon enters the A site with no amino acid
The release factor in the stop codon tells the ribosome to fall apart
A, P, E ribosome sites each with different tasks
DNA
Nitrogenous base (pairs)
A to T
C to G
Phosphate group
Deoxyribose
Found in all living organisms(within nucleus)
Transcription
creates mRNA
.

.
.
RNA polymerase attaches to promoter site
Promoter site tells when and where to start reading the gene
