Experimental Designs
Counterbalancing:
-
Half of ppts take part in condition A then B, the other half take part in B then A
Does not remove/prevent the problem, but attempts to balance out the effects
Independent Groups:
When two separate groups are subject to separate conditions, results are usually compared
Evaluation:
-
W - Less economical, increase in time/money spent on recruiting ppts
-
-
-
Matched Pairs:
Participants are paired together on a variable(s) relevant to the experiment that may affect the dependent variable eg. IQ
Evaluation:
-
-
W - Matching is time consuming and expensive, less economical than other designs
