DAYS of TYPE
BRIEF
Days of Type celebrates creativity around typography and its endless graphic possibilities. Participants design a letter or number each day, resulting in an outcome of the ability to represent the same symbol from many different perspectives.
Postcards: Once the type challenge is complete (min 26, max 36) scan or photograph your original illustrations and create a series of 10 postcards.
The 36 day challenge is to create a series of letterforms based on a theme, running from A-Z (and then 0-9). Participants are free to choose the media and size of their original illustrations.
Experiment with techniques before you begin, it helps to be consistent once started, as this forms the basis of the challenge.
REQUIREMENTS

Research past examples & collect samples for reference.

Consider the tools and materials used to produce the past letterforms & explain how they could be incorporated in your work.

Experiment by using different approaches, media, styles and techniques, incorporate a variety of compositional formats and colour schemes (document in visual diary).
Explain visual communication & fundamentals of typography; such as anatomy and classification for each letter created.

Evaluate the success of your concepts from the experimentation stage in relation to the initial brief and select final typographic approach and final media style.

Post to Instagram or another online platform (save in correct format). Alternatively, mockup artwork as simulated posts.

Reflect and explain the approaches, opportunities, constraints and/or problem solving required for your chosen technique (digital or analogue).
Write a *Rational.
*Rationale:
- functional (meeting communication objectives) and aesthetic qualities of your solutions
- technical and production constraints and/or considerations that your chosen social media platform imposes when producing and uploading artwork
- safe work practices (include information specific to safety requirements relating to drawing)
- any technical problems encountered (and how they were solved).

Create thumbnails that show a variety of layout/compositional options for the postcards (considering their design elements and principles)
Identify software to be used and explain the features that will be used to create the final product.
Scan, adjust or enhance your illustrations for final use
