The impacts of spending intentional time outside while earthing
Only thinking about what comes next s opposed to being in the moment
Even when I was taking the photo, I tried to take a minute to really feel what I was feeling to make sure I was taking it in and not just doing it because I had to for class.
I feel like I can’t just completely remove all thoughts of stress and thoughts about what I need to do next.
Making space and time to just be for a moment is, I could imagine, really beneficial.
I think that all too often, I get too caught up in just checking things off my to-do list every day
I want to learn about how just being outside, one with the world, can affect the overall sense of being.
I feel that this is why I have never been super great at yoga or meditation because I find it really difficult to just focus on my breath and the sounds and scents around me.
We, as a society, can get caught up in what we need to be doing and what needs to come next, as opposed to living in the moment.
I read a quote once that we are called the human race because we are always just racing to the next thing.
It’s not all about how to succeed in classes, what homework I have to do tonight, what chores need to get done. It might feel like that’s what life is all about, but with the right intention, life can be a lot more.
The impacts of the cold on the body
I want to look into research about how the cold can benefit the body,
It was a little cold outside, and there was snow on the ground from last week.
I want to research how the body is able to focus/distract itself when it experiences cold.
It is supposed to dump snow tonight though, so I could tell that the weather is getting colder.
but it was really cold and not that peaceful of an experience so I just put my feet on the concrete path near the snow, and that made it way more bearable.
I have seen tiktoks about people who do a full body ice-bath every day or maybe every few days, and they can train their bodies to be able to handle it better and for longer periods of time. I have never looked into the perks of this, but I know there are certain benefits to taking cold showers, and maybe even putting your feet in the snow like I did for the photo
The impacts of nature on anxiety
I guess I didn’t really think about it but now I’m wishing that I took a more intentional notice of the smell. I do remember that it felt nice to take deep breaths of fresh air as I had been sitting inside all morning.
I also think I could do a whole other section specifically about how getting outside can impact anxiety and feelings of stress.
As a college student, I face stress and anxiety on a day to day basis, and I am doing my “I am embodied” paper on how spending more time outside can benefit anxiety.
Maybe I’m just wound too tight, but I feel that continuing the practice can only improve my ability to be present in the moment and intentional with my life.
I think that regardless of what stage you are in life, everyone faces stress and anxiety day to day.
and how being in nature can help with anxiety
I also am really interested in learning about the impacts of spending more time outdoors with nature on anxiety.
I have always struggled with anxiety and I know that I need to take more time to take care of that part of myself, so I think this paper will give me a lot of knowledge and tools on how to do so.
The impact of earthing on the physical body
This class is a little out of my comfort zone because my entire college career, I have been taught to have a pretty clinical approach to the body as an IPHY major.
I also want to look more into earthing. I really enjoyed reading about the benefits of earthing for our physical health and what it has been known to do
I think there is likely a lot of information about how being directly connected to the earth without anything standing in between can have very obviously visible effects on the body.
it was nice to share what I was doing and what benefits earthing can bring to a person.
I also think that many people like to see the facts about how mindfulness and other alternative approaches work before fully believing them.
Though I am very interested in how an alternative approach can improve the body, I have always found a way to connect that to science to get myself to truly believe it. I like to see the facts about things that are viewed as more “hippy” such as meditation, yoga, crystals, eating, etc. to fully understand and believe it.
how earthing can improve overall health,
I’d like to look into studies about all of those topics, to prove to the reader, and maybe to myself, why making time to be intentional outside with the world is good for you.
I also think that we can jump to clinical approaches to make us feel better, but there are alternative approaches that are just as effective and better for our bodies.
For example, if someone has a headache, their immediate response might be just to take an advil. However, if every single time that person has a headache they take an advil, that could lead to stomach issues later on in life
It could be valuable to know that other things such as meditation, etc. can help to make us feel more comfortable and happier in our daily lives without negatively affecting other parts of the body.
I am really excited to look into more research about the effects of earthing on physical health.
