Coca Cola & Tesla - Coggle Diagram
Coca Cola & Tesla
are charities responsible for recycling?
no! the companies should be accountable
maybe charities can raise awareness
in Samoa etc. charities are trying to take care of the waste
but costs are very high
Coca Cola have donated money (but not enough)
small nation - can't afford to make their own systems
limited by size of reaching full potential
recently, Coke stopped sending glass bottles - plastic bottles cannot be removed from Samoa
e.g. in Uganda, children and mothers collecting SUP
lack of education
big industries are maybe taking advantage of these people / exploiting these people
modern day slavery
the companies would spend too much money recycling
it is the responsibility of the consumer to recycle!!!
people need to be educated!!!
maybe people don't understand
maybe the government and the consumer can work together
e.g. Brazil - thicker, reusable bottles
easier to recycle
should Tesla / electric car companies develop / find an alternative to cobalt?
find a new, sustainable technology
a synthetic material?
need to stop using limited natural resources
Elon Musk - Space X company developed a recyclable rocket so why not apply the same technology to Tesla?
Clay (Siyuan Chen) found some extra videos about this
what happens to the communities who rely on it for their wages?
find better jobs?
lose jobs / income?
an incentive - governments could ban and test cars for cobalt
maybe Tesla could recycle their cars
limiting need for mined cobalt
removing cobalt - affects performance of the car
are Tesla greenwashing / falsely advertising their cars by saying their cars are environmentally friendly?
is cobalt mining a 'necessary evil'?
an ethical dilemma!!!
Coca Cola
produce majority of the world's plastic waste
keep making claims that they are working on this but people are saying they are not doing this
comparing past and present
e.g. in the past, glass bottles weren't thrown away because there were incentives to recycle
IS THIS WHERE THE PROBLEMS ALL STARTED?
better profits if use plastic bottles
produce recyclable bottles but the systems in some countries don't allow this
so Coca Cola have aims but not achieved
e.g. Philippines
poorer countries end up with pollution
how can businesses be incentivised to cut out SUP / environmentally-harmful materials?
this might cut profits
tax!!!!
maybe some governments might not do this
but we saw from tobacco that this didn't make a difference
maybe government can invest more money in infrastructure to collect and recycle
shareholders' responsibility
Ted Talk = profit will come from good CSR policies
very costly to lose out on profits
sacrificing personal profit but enriching stability of nations & companies
destabilised societies would have a huge negative impact
sustainability of a country
but see it as an investment in the long term
also, save the environment
Tesla
electric car
cobalt (main raw material)
produced in the DRC
community - use child labour
this is a big problem
subcontractors have ethical issues
e.g. tunnel collapse
e.g. bad health & safety
e.g. gas poisoning
subcontractors need to be held accountable to the local communities
one solution - buy the stock of Tesla???
natural product
maybe use / find / develop substitute material
but maybe the cost of products will increase which will affect profits
unsustainable
a cheap product
Tesla dominates car industry
