The Berlin Wall was a "guarded concrete barrier "that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989
This big Wall cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany, including East Berlin.
The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls accompanied by a wide area (lknown as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, beds of nails and other defenses.

IMPACT IT HAVE
The creation of the wall basically divided families who found themselves unable to visit each other. Many East Berliners were cut off from their jobs.

The Berlin Wall would prevent the West from having further influence on the East, stop the flow of migrants out of the communist sector, and ultimately become the most iconic image of the Cold War in Europe. The United States quickly condemned the wall, which divided families and limited freedom of movement.
