Izaan Ibrahim Moral Foundations Map, Living in the bay area has allowed me…
-
Living in the bay area has allowed me to live in a relatively diverse environment. I’ve met all kinds of people and have learned how different worldviews shape people.
My mom has been a pillar of my morality for a long time. She's taught me to consider the moral implications of the actions I take and has taught me to be a better person.
I listen to literally everything and anything. This lets me have a really wide perspective on emotions and how other people feel, and how to convey emotions in more than just words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk60cYrKQUU
A lot of the stuff that I watch has had an effect on what I think about in terms of morality. The Good Place is an example of a show that’s had a massive effect on my idea of morality, as it helped me develop a sense of personal responsibility towards what’s objectively and personally right.
More often than not we play games to get a little escape from reality but a lot of the time games with good stories and messages have more impact than any other media since you’re actively participating in it. I know games like FFXIV have had a massive impact on my mentality towards life and how we should manage our own morals.
Playing guitar has been extremely cathartic for me in terms of my mental health, but making music has helped me explore my own ideas and mentality. Sometimes I have to question my sense of justice or objective morality when trying to put ideas into music.
Many of the books that I’ve read I consider imperative to my current sense of morality. Fahrenheit 451, the Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Kid, are a couple examples of novels that have shaped my understanding of morality.
I’ve had a lot of good teachers help me with my sense of morality. When i used to do jiu jitsu, one of my coaches, Mr. Ibalio, taught me a lot on the mat but also a lot of what to do off the mat - how to deal with people who you end up hurting in a sport specifically for hurting people, amongst other things.
Taking care of my cat is an important part of helping me develop my morality. I got to learn how to take care of something that can’t really take care of itself, and I got a partner who sleeps on my hand while I do homework, so not a bad trade.
Having a brother meant that I had to learn how to be a role model. It’s difficult to help take care of a literal tiny human being but I’ve been learning how to and have been getting better at it, and learning how to develop his morals alongside mine.
