SYMPTOMS
Bipolar II Disorder: The patient has had at least one major depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, but you have never had a manic episode.
Cyclic disorder: The patient has experienced multiple episodes of hypomanic and depressive symptoms (though not as severe as major depressive disorder) for at least two years (or one year in children and adolescents).
Bipolar I Disorder: The patient has had at least one manic episode, which may precede or follow a hypomanic or major depressive episode. In some cases, mania can trigger disembodied reality (psychosis).
