Hitler was born and raised in Austria
he wasn't always happy but later he wrote about how close
he was with his mom
his father was abusive
his mum died of breast cancer (Jewish doctor)
he wanted to become a artist but was rejected by the art school
homeless and so cleaned porches without being asked. expected payment however he never did. (rich Jews owned the house)
he left Vienna to avoid the war
however when ww1 started he got caught up in the excitement and joined the war
he was a messenger
he got badly injured 2 times and earned 2 iron crosses

1920 he becomes the leading public speaker and propagandist
they become known as nsdap nationalist socialist German workers party or NAZI
1921 Hitler is elected to become the party chairman

1921 Hitler assembled an army of former soldiers
initially he used them to protect party meetings and intimidate political opponents
after the munich putsch he re purposed them to intimidate voters to vote for him
by 1932 the SA had 400,000 members

he attempted to copy Mussolini
8th november 1923 hitler marches into a political meeting and waves a gun he forced them to agree and let them go
someone called the police and on the way to munich police killed 16 SA members and hitler fled
he was arrested 2 days later

he realised that revolution wouldnt work so he reorganised the party to earn votes
Nazi rebuild 1924-1929
he was released out from prison in December 1924
he would dedicate the party to democratically winning elections
however the period leading up to 1929 was known as the lean years.
they were gaining members. 27,00 in 1925 to 130,000 in 1929
however they struggled to earn seats in the reichstag

in october 1929 the US stock market crashed causing a global depression

unemployment had shot up and so production more than halved
the democratic government couldnt deal with the crisis and so ...bruning resigned and further undermined the germans faith in democracy
right wing nazis soared and so did left wing communist in 1930 to 1933

april presidential elections hitler comes second to hindenburg 53 - 36.8%
may bruning resigns and von papen becomes the conservative
july they become the largest party with 230 seats however chancellor is declined
november von papen calls reichstag elections. hitler lost 34 seats but still remained the largest
december von papen resigns and von schliecher becomes chancellor
von schliecher attempts to split nazis by asking a leading Nazi called Gregor Strasser to be his Vice Chancellor. hitler forced him to decline
von papen and hindenburg turn to hitler and make him chancellor. they believed they could control him.
