Lee went to school to become a Lawyer, but quit and pursued her passion in writing after one of her good friends payed to support her for a year so she could write full time.
She worked on her novel for eight years and once it was finished, she was quoted saying that the she expected "A quick and merciful death at the hands of the critics."
Lee wrote, to kill and mockingbird and it quickly became a hit and Lee was not ready for all the people asking about book signings, interviews, and appearances.
Harper Lee met Truman Capote when she was a child and he was one of her closest friends, growing up.
They assisted each other in writing books and Lee even added Capote into, "to kill a mockingbird" as the character Dill.
In the 70's, the people passed around a rumor that Capote wrote, "to kill a mockingbird", but they made it clear that it was Lee who wrote it, not Capote.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.”
"Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them.”
Harper Lee had a stroke in 2007 and which made people confused at why she would publish the book, "go set a watchman".
Lee prefered a quiet life that was outside of the spotlight. Even though she made millions from the book, "to kill a mockingbird", she didn't like to buy much.
