S.A. LOI 2 Synthesizing and interpreting of Rainforest biome -
Food chain -
The feeding relationship between 2 organisms in an ecosystem
Example - Butterflies eat flowers , toucans eat butterflies , leopards eat toucans
For example a toucan goes extinct Butterfly population will increase , flower population will decrease as more toucans will eat more flowers and leopards will go extinct as leopards will have no one left to eat .
Food web
Complex network of food chains in an ecosystem
A food web example is in which a golden lion tamarin (a type of monkey) can be eaten by either the boa constrictor or the jaguar. The jaguar can also eat the tapir and the agouti. The boa constrictor can also eat the sloth. The toucan consumes the fruit produced by the tree, which is a green plant and primary producer.
If a golden lion tamarin goes extinct boa constructors will feed more on sloths so sloths population will slightly decrease . Also jaguars will feed more on the tapir and the agouti so their populations will also decrease at a miniscle level . The toucan and the plants won't be affected .
Commensalism
1 specie is benefited and the other is neither harmed nor benefited
Scavengers and dead animals - Once the animal is dead it is no longer affected by what happens to its body . So vulture and others scavengers eat the animals up .
Mutualism -
Both species benefit from each other
Capuchin monkeys and flowers- Capuchin monkeys love to eat flowers from some trees so , when they eat the pollen stick to them and it falls somewhere else when new flowers can grow
Parasitism
1 is benefited and the other is harmed
Ophiocordyceps and carpenter ants - Ophiocordyceps are fungi which attack carpenter ants which turn into zombies
Rainforest's importance
Rainforests are often called the lungs of the planet for their role in absorbing carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and increasing local humidity. ... Rainforests also stabilize climate, house incredible amounts of plants and wildlife, and produce nourishing rainfall all around the planet
Animal extinction impact in past
Before 10,000 years and 12,000 years there were mass animal extinctions and the effect was when there were more animals their poop helped the soil to be richer and more fertile
