The colon is a mark of punctuation used after a statement
It can be used after an independent clause or that introduces a quotation, an explanation or an example.
Semicolon
Semicolons are used to link two clauses that are closely connected to each other in thought.
it is also used to separate two independent clauses when at least one of them contains a comma or is long. another usage of it is to separate items in a list, as commas could make the list difficult to read and interpret.
Some examples: 1.John likes eggs; Jennifer does not. 2. She is a kind-hearted girl, and helps others in need; she is often praised for this. 3. When I went to Europe, i visited Milan, Rome, Venice in Italy; i also visited Paris and Marseille in France
