Practice 2
Experiment 1:Solubility
Put your safety gear on.
Get your material ready (3 empty and clean soda cans)
Divide the NaCl and paraffin into four equal parts before starting.
Pour 5mL of distilled water into two 10mL beakers.
Identify which of the tested substances are flammable.
Determine which one conducts electricity.
Dispose of the substances properly.
Clean the porcelain capsule with a paper towel.
Repeat the procedure using acetone.
Clean the spoon and repeat the procedure with paraffin until any change is observed
Remember to always clean the capsule before each test.
Experiment 4: Flammability
Immerse the electrodes in each of the solutions from experiment 1
Repeat the procedure using sodium chloride.
Place sodium chloride in a clean iron spoon.
Experiment 3: Melting point
Heat it with a burner for three minutes maximum.
Carefully approach a lit wooden stick.
Repeat the procedure using paraffin.
Make observations
Determine which of the two substances is soluble in water.
Stir with a glass rod and observe.
Add 0.5g of sodium chloride to one and 0.5g of paraffin to the other.
Keep these beakers to carry out the experiment 2
Experiment 2: Electrical conductivity
Which of the two substances has the lowest melting point?
Make observations
Place only two drops of ethanol in a porcelain capsule.
Make observations
