In 1929, Edison's friend, Henry Ford, threw a party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the light bulb. After president Hoover gave an opening speech, Edison collapsed and never fully recovered.
In 1915 he was named Head of Naval Consulting Board (an attempt by the government to bring science into the defense program). Several of Edison's ideas were disregarded.
Thomas went into a coma on October 14th, 1931. He died a few days later on October 18th.
Thomas introduced his own company (Thomas Edison Inc.) so he did not have to do as much day-by-day work.
