Chapter 1-5
Chapter 3
After figuring out things Mary had figured to the follow a stream to walk southward to Adelaide. Once Peter got hungry Mary and him divereted from the stream trying to find food then came near the base of these hills which looked (to Peter) like the mountains the siblings's father brought them to. This gave Peter an idea of going to the top of the mountain to try to seee the sea from that point, and he told Mary this and she wanted to try it, so they did.
Chapter 4
After both kids woke up Mary had decided to lie in a mature kind of way to Peter for his sake because she knew there might not be any sea. To back herself up Mary said they both(Mary and Peter) need to search for food but goiong to the sea there might not be food so they had to search around them in the forest which both the kids did. When the kids were searching Peter had a feeling they were being watched and when he said that to Mary, she turned around and yelled, when she saw a naked Aboriginal boy standing right behind her.
Chapter 2
The siblings had then started to plan to walk to Adelaide the next day when they were bathing. Mary also had to calm Peter down for himm to finish crying because he was bitten by red ants and he didn't like the outback.

Chapter 1
The readers learns the kids had just survived a plane crash and had went to a cave because everyone else in the plane crash dies. The readers also know that Mary is trying her best to be a motherly figure to Peter now because he is hurt and they have no else to help them.

Chapters 11-14

Chapter 11
This chapter talked about the mindset of an Aboriginal. It said if they think they're going to die then they will give up and won't take any help because they think they can't get any help from anything at that point. This is what the Aboriginal boy thought when he saw the 'lubra' in Mary's eyes and knew he was going to die soon.

Chapter 18
Both Mary and Peter had bonded with a family of Aboriginals who they just met. They Aboriginal people and the siblings didn't speak the same language but because of the mutual understanding of the human feelings/emotions and behaviour both sides could understand each other without having to talk. The Aboriginals had helped the kids find a path to a home like Mary's dream house where a man that may be able to help Mary and Peter.
Chapter 15
After burying the dead body of the Aboriginal boy the kids moved on to again start their journey to Adelaide alone. The kids were growing to be independent and learning more basic knowledge on how to survive with just their basic surrondings in nature.
