Components of an Argumentative Essay
Introduction
Characteristics of a thesis statement: In an introductory paragraph, main idea, purpose of the main idea, and supporting evidence.
Thesis: Writing a strong thesis is a key element to writing a successful essay.
Main idea/topic sentence: What is your argument? What is your main idea?
Background Information: Stay away from giving away all of your points, keep your background information sentence short and simple
Hook: The purpose of a hook is to gain the readers attention as soon as they start reading the initial sentence.
Conlusion
Begin with a 1 sentence conclusion startery
Include a concluding sentence to your concluding paragraph
Plan to leave your audience intrigued or connected with your essay topic.
Main points of every paragraph are also restated
Thesis is restated in a different but interesting way
Supporting Evidence
If evidence will be copied directly from a literary source, make sure to use citations and the MLA8 format.
Every main idea in your essay should have supporting evidence to back up your argument
Be as specific as possible when having supporting evidence or using specific examples
Supporting evidence will create strong supporting facts and information to better state your argument
At the end of your essay, include a works cited page with the information of your sources.
Body Paragraphs

In an essay, you can have as many body paragraphs as you would like. There is no limit to your essay unless the assignment requires a limit.
1 Begin every body paragraph with a topic sentence that connects with your thesis
5 Support your main idea with examples or evidence
6 Conclude by summarizing your main points and leading onto the following paragraphs main idea.
