The Ted talk this week had a lot of really great points that taught me a lot about coalition building
"People helping people is a solution to solving problems" By having communities work together to help each other so much more change and good can happen in our communities.
"Time to stop talking and start doing". This quote really hit me because a lot of times when there are social issues in the area we live we just talk about what is going on but we don't do much about it. In order to see change we actually need to act to make the change happen
Facilitation Week 5

Example: I think of good facilitators I have worked with (ex. homeless street outreach team) and they had a lot of similar qualities
-
Their presentation/meeting was not just a lecture, they were trying to get the group members involved because we can all learn from each other.

Building from Strengths
Every community has strengths, it is important to use those strengths to continue to build up the community.
The strengths perspective is an idea that I plan on focusing my practice around. It can be so empowering for individuals and communities to use their strengths to help them overcome their struggles.
Use an assets lense

no one wants to be working with a social worker that doesn't focus on the good things in their lives.
Be inclusive
This is one important aspect of social work that really drew me to the field. We are trained to include everyone and to help every feel like they are important. I hope to be able to do that with my clients.
Be action Oriented
This is how WE GET STUFF DONE. This is how I will see change in my community, this is how I will see policy change, this is how I will see changes in individuals.
