GREEK COLONISATION
They were owned by the military aristocracy, a small group who controlled the power. Population growth caused a shortage of agricultural products.
They founded cities to promote trade. Each colony was founded as an independent polis of the city of origin or metropolis
THE MINOAN CIVILISATION
The Cretan civilisation’s main strength was its maritime location. This allowed them to establish political and economic control of the sea, called thalassocracy. They followed sea routes to trade their agricultural products and crafts.
In Cretan cities, the palace was the centre of power. The most important was the palace in Knossos, where the walls were decorated with frescos.
