LIVING ORGANISMS AND THEIR SURROUNDINGS
HABITAT
There are three types of habitats as follow: Terrestrial Habitat, Aquatic Habitat and Desert
The place where organisms live is called a Habitat
Cats, ants, dogs, raccoons, spiders, kangaroos, tigers, lions, mice, bats, bulls, oxen, leopards, are some examples of Terrestrial :
The term "terrestrial" is typically applied to species that live primarily on the ground, in contrast to arboreal species, which live primarily in trees.
Terrestrial animals spend most of or their entire life span on land, in contrast to animals that live predominantly in water
The habitat provides food, water, air, shelter and other need to the organisms. Several kind of plants and animals live in the same habitat.
DESERT
A desert is a barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs.
About one-third of the land surface of the Earth is arid or semi-arid.
The four main types of desert include hot and dry deserts, semi-arid deserts, coastal deserts, and cold deserts.
The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to the processes of denudation.
CHARACTERISTICS OF ORGANISMS
GROWTH OF LIVING ORGANISMS -
Living organisms require certain things to grow, such as nutrients, vitamins and minerals. These things help the organism in staying healthy and allowing it to grow.
REPRODUCTION IN LIVING ORGANISMS -
Different living organisms reproduce in different ways; such as mammals like elephants and giraffes do not lay eggs, rather directly give birth to the young one, while Reptiles and birds etc. lay eggs which after some time hatch.
MOVEMENTS IN LIVING ORGANISMS -
Many different living organisms move in many different ways such as a snakes slithers, a bird flies, human beings walk, etc. There are 7 different types of ways in which a living organisms moves - Slither, swim, fly, walk, run, jump, crawl, climb, glide.
DESERT- ANIMALS AND PLANTS
Animals that live in deserts include lizards, geckos, toads, jackrabbits, camels, snakes, spiders, and meerkats.
Plants that live in the desert include cactus such as cholla and saguaro, wildflowers like desert paintbrush and phacelia, trees and shrubs like ocotillo Joshua trees, and palo verde trees.
Desert flora have adapted to the extremes of heat and aridity by using both physical and behavioral mechanisms, much like desert animals.
