roger was frustrated by the loss of authority when William put sheriffs in charge because before earls had control
loss of land, loss of privilages and loss of power
opportunities where Williams absence, powerful allies and their rebelliousness
when Ralph married rogers sister their was a big wedding feast in which waltheof was invited and their Ralph and roger told him their plans and with waltheof background being a rebellion he was perfect.

waltheof thought better of getting involved and contacted archbishop lanfranc and he contacted roger to encourage him to stop but when these had no effect he cut roger off from the church, so he couldn't confess his sins before he died. when william arived it was too late for the danish fleets so rather then invade they raided up the east coast and sacked york cathedral.
while Ralph escaped to Brittany his wife held out in Norwich castle. his followers were other blinded or banished
waltheof fled abroad but William tricked him to coming back and when he did he was imprisoned then executed in may 1076
William imprisoned roger for life and attacked Ralph castle at dol but it was hard to travel back home because of military
consequences

the failure of the danish invasion in 1075 ended the viking threat to England but William didn't know this so when another invasion threat from Denmark came in 185 he took extra measures to boost England defenses
the revolts were most likely from Ralph father getting rewards from William but his being taken away when he was in-charge.
