what is a FB Pixel?
1) a piece of code placed on a website that tracks user behaviour and actions on a website
2) tracks who goes to a website
3) Facebook makes a list of all users that have interacted with the site
4) You can then build a Lookalike Audience from that list
the pixel tracks all actions like page views, clicks on buttons, add to carts, checkouts (conversions)
you can then create a lookalike audience on all the people that converted (completed checkout)
so facebook will look at the demographics of all the people that checkedout
it will look at location, age, gender, the types of topics or interests they have etc
it will then create a whole new list of people with a certain percentage (which you choose) of similarities.
so you can choose 1-10% of the target country's population that are most similar to your custom audience. A list will be created full of people whose demographics are most similar to the people that converted on the clients site
so for example, imagine 5-10 guys from leytonstone mosque all buy mufti ibrahims home made honey from bees he keeps in his garden
these 5-10 guys all live in leytonstone, are between the ages of 30-50, are all married, are from middle income familys and are all interested in health and fitness and are subscribed to Homemade Honey Magazine
so what a lookalike audience will do, will try to find another bunch of 5-10 guys 95% similarity that mufti Ibrahim can try to sell his honey to. so his next marketing endeavour may target guys in ilford and the lookalike audience might be guys between 30-55 middle income, most married but a couple single guys but they're all interested in health and fitness and are subscribed to Homemade Honey Magazine
