Developing methods is an organic, reflexive process. Reading literature, observing the children, discussions with practitioners, all combined to hone the development of the study and how best to proceed. Each element is revisited and revised as necessary as each informs the other, in a cyclical way. Similarly, methods are honed throughout the process. Themes are not presumed from the outset but emerge during the development process.
Clark discusses the cyclical nature of this process, which involves reflecting on experiences in the research setting, more reading, adapting and reflecting.
