1) Major Depressive Disorder: Major depressive disorder is a prolonged period of depressed mood or loss of interest/pleasure in most of the activities (6 months and more). General symptoms include a change in body weight, irregular sleep, tiredness, inability to think clearly, agitation, slowed behavior, thoughts of death and suicide, excessive guilt or feelings of worthlessness.
Physical symptoms: sickness, muscle pain, weight loss, poor appetite, tiredness, constant sleeping, etc.
Behavioral symptoms: withdraws from people and situations, fails to get things done, stops doing enjoyable activities, has difficulty concentrating, etc.
Cognitive symptoms: think nothing ever good happens to them, their future is bleak, they are worthless, their life is not worth living, etc.
*Emotional symptoms: feel overwhelmed, unhappy, irritable, frustrated, lack confidence, are indecisive, etc.
Factors Predisposing Towards Depression
Genetic makeup, age (women are at risk during young adulthood & men during middle age), gender (women are more likely to be depressed than men), and other risk factors such as negative life events and lack of social support.
