Plot
Act 1 scene 1 On a heath in Scotland 3 witches plan to meet with Macbeth to tell him a prophecy. They say they will meet him when the battle is lost and won. ends with the paradox " fair is foul and foul is fair."
Act 1 scene 2 - Duncan king of Scotland meets the Captain who has just returned from battle and informs him of the heroic Macbeth and Banquos bravery in battle.Duncan decided to make Macbeth the new thane of cawdor.
Act 1 scene 3 The witches meet with Macbeth and Banquo on the heath and proclaim the prophecy they have received about Macbeth such as that he will become thane of cawdor and then become king. Macbeth begins to question killing the king to secure the prophecy.
Act 1 scene 4 Duncan announces his intention to make Malcolm the heir to the throne and Duncan is set to dine at Macbeth's castle. He writes a letter to his wife explaining what has happened.
Act 1 scene 5- Lady Macbeth receives the letter and reads it in a soliloqy. She fears macbeth is not ruthless enough and will not be able to kill Duncan and she cannot due to feminine atributes/ nature.
