Evaluation
Tulving et al (1994): evidence from brain imaging - prefrontal cortex (left = semantic, right = episodic).
Case studies are retrospective (looking back) and lack control. Done on people who already have damaged memory.

Clinical evidence from case studies e.g. HM, Clive Wearing, shows that episodic memory can be damaged but semantic works fine so shows different stores.

Memory of a single episode can include people, places, objects and behaviours which are all interwoven.
Conscious effort to recall, can be quick but you're still aware that you're recalling something.
