The warehouse retail sector has grown dramatically during the last few decades as people really like all under one roof businesses. With the rapid advancement of the e-commerce industry, it poses a danger to the warehouse retail industry. Due to government constraints, this trend has accelerated significantly as a result of the pandemic.
POLITICAL
Except for China, Costco is an international corporation with operations in countries where the host country has good connections. Due to political tensions between China and the United States, the corporation may be in for a treat in the future. The corporation chose not to enter India due to political pressure, where there is a big market to be utilized. For effective operations, the corporation must have strong political ties with both the host countries and the parent country.
TECHNOLOGICAL
The warehouse business has evolved over the last few decades and there has been a threat from Walmart. Due to strong competition, profit-seeking within the industry the company needs to improve its process and provide a series. All marketing brands should also improve their asset management. To improve asset management, the company has used big data statistics and now the technology has grown exponentially. The rise of AI, has provided many opportunities to improve the management and processing of innovation.
ECONOMIC
People's disposable income has fallen as a result of the pandemic, reducing their family's expenditure. The cost of resources has increased due to supply chain interruptions. This contributed to a drop in profits in the first half of the previous year. Because of the reduction of the virus and the government's economic efforts to promote the economy, people's income has increased. The company's profitability are also influenced by foreign exchange rates.
LEGAL
Costco has locations in a number of western countries, each with its own set of rules and regulations. The labor rules in the United States are vastly different from those in China. The running business rules in China are vastly different from those in the United States. In other nations where the corporation operates, the laws are different. As a result, the corporation must adhere to the norms and regulations of the country in which it operates. Employee rules and legislation pertaining to the establishment of warehouses should also be considered by the organization. The firm also ensures the host nations' exports and imports.
Micro - Environment
CUSTOMERS
The firm has a warehousing strategy. It buys enormous amounts of specific items and attempts to sell them as soon as possible. However, the strategy will only work if the high volumes can be maintained. Costco may be left with vast supplies of undesirable, and perhaps perishable, items if client preferences shift.
COMPETITORS
Walmart Inc. is one of Costco's biggest competitors, operating retail stores worldwide through three main components: Walmart U.S., Walmart International, and Sam's Club. Sam's Club is very similar to Costco's sales format; however, Costco is still considered a direct competitor to both Walmart and its subsidiary.
EMPLOYEES
Costco boasts one of the best quality of life rankings among its competitors, Their benefits as well as wages are above the minimum mandate and thus show us that they care about their workfoce. Costco also has a very empathetic management team and thus employees are are given a sense of safety and belonging.
