nationalism rose. treaty that ended ww1 created League of Nations. first international political form, was made and failed.
authoritirarianism rising again
Musollini wanted to expand fascist empire, League of Nations didn't take action to help Ethopia in fear of italy siding with hitler's germany. musolini declared himself emperor of ethopia. the league's failure gave militant powers confidence they would not be stopped.
brief period of peace
ww1 caused resentful defeated powers, squabbling winners,fractured global economy, war reperations, individual and societal trauma
first world war erupted
many suffered through the great world war. trench warfare, gas weapons, artillery, left a generation of men dead. economies of major world powers and their colonies destroyed. referred to as war to end all wars, as it didn't seem like it could ever happen again.
