DEEP MUSCLES - Coggle Diagram
DEEP MUSCLES
ORIGIN (0) AND INSERTION (I)
posterior surface of distal ulna; interosseous membrane I—extensor expansion of index finger; joins tendon of extensor digitorum
ACTION
Extends index finger
(digit II) and assists in extending wrist
DESCRIPTION
Tiny muscle arising dose to wrist
NERVE SUPPLY
Posterior interosseous nerve
MUSCLE
Extensor indicis (in'di-sis) (indicis=index finger )
ORIGIN (0) AND INSERTION (I)
0—posterior surface of radius and ulna; interosseous membrane I—base of first metacarpal and trapezium
ACTION
Abducts and extends thumb
DESCRIPTION
Lateral and parallel to extensor pollicis longus; just distal to supinator
NERVE SUPPLY
Posterior interosseous nerve
MUSCLE
Abductor pollicis longus (ab-duk'tor) (abduct = movement away from median plane)
MUSCLE
Supinator (soo"pi-na 'tor) (supination = turning palm anteriorly or upward)
ORIGIN (0) AND INSERTION (I)
0—dorsal shaft of radius and ulna; interosseous membrane I—base of proximal (brevis) and distal (longus) phalanx of thumb
MUSCLE
Extensor pollicis brevis and longus
DESCRIPTION
Deep muscle pair with a common origin and action; overlain by extensor carpi ulnaris
NERVE SUPPLY
Posterior interosseous nerve
ACTION
Extends thumb
ORIGIN (0) AND INSERTION (I)
0—lateral epicondyle of humerus; proximal ulna I—proximal end of radius
DESCRITION
Deep muscle at posterior aspect of elbow; largely concealed by superficial muscles
NERVE SUPPLY
Posterior interosseous nerve
ACTION
Assists biceps brachii to forcibly supinate forearm; works alone in slow supination; antagonist of pronator muscles
