Direct Speech
- Use the exact words with double quotation marks.
Indirect Speech
- Reporting only the message of the spoken words. It does not require double quotation marks.
Present Continuous --> Past Continuous
He said, "He is enjoying this game."
He said that he was enjoying that game.
Present Simple --> Past Simple
He said, "I like playing football."
He said that he liked playing football.
Will,Shall --> Would, Should
She said, "I will play football tomorrow."
She said that she would play football the next day.
Past Perfect --> Past perfect
He said, "I had played football yesterday.
He said that he had played football the previous day.
Present Perfect --> Past Perfect
She said, "I have not played football."
She said that she had not played football.
Will have --> Would have
He said, "I will have little time to play football."
He said that he would have little time to play football.
Past Simple --> Past Perfect
He said, "I played football."
He said that he had played football.
