1.) DEFINE the Goal

What is the info being displayed on? (Poster, Picture, Handout, Computer Page, etc...?)
Who are the learners?
What is their prior knowledge? (Experts or Novices)
Who makes up the audience?( young vs old, male vs female, etc...)
What may your audience struggle with? (deaf or colorblindness?)
What are the Constraints
What is the budgets, time frames, and/ or technology you are dealing with?
3.) DESIGN the Visual Approach
Content Graphic Requirements
What needs to be in the graphic?
Determine the Image the Package Should Project
What Font, colors, logos, etc... will be used
5.) APPLY Principles of Psychological Instructional Events to Visual Design Decisions
Will There be Cognitive Overload?
Can the Learner(s) pause/ step away and come back to it?
Are there any Visual Cues for the learner?
4.) IDENTIFY Communication Function of Visuals to Match Content Types
How to best illustrate key content points
Is the content a Fact, Concept Process, Procedure, or a Principle?
