AN AMAZING PLACE
The people who live there are San "bush people". They stay in huts that they make from wood and grass.
They live in groups of 25-50, where in the evenings they sit around the fire and tell stories about animals.
They eat wild animals, plants,berries, nuts and insects. They know a lot about plants, in fact they get water from them and medicine when they are ill.
This amazing place is the Kalahari, one of southern Africa's hottest places where there isn't often water.
The south is drier than the north because there is less rain. For this reason there aren't many plants and animals than in the north.
When it rains, at the end of the summer, the land becomes greener and millions of little flowers grow up. But this is only for a few weeks, whereupon the bushes get dry and the grass turn bown.
Every year, thousand of tourists visit the Kalahari because they are interested in wildlife or maybe they love watching animals and listening stories told by their guides.
They stay in small huts and have confortable beds and showers, but there is not electricity.
There are a lot of dangerous animals like snakes, spiders and scorpions, and many wild animals like lions, leopards and hyenas.
