The word Religion itself is grounded in colonial ideas on a linguistic level. The work involved in religious studies is deconstructing and analyzing a word that is, at its foundation, against the goals of an ethical religious scholar, if such a thing can exist. How can we reconcile this words meaning with the work we want to do as religious scholars, while studying the things we want to study, while seeing value in our work even as the category itself is teems with flaws we can see and feel?
