Treaty of London, October 1518
Pope Leo X called for general crusade to stop spread of ottoman power in eastern europe. little chance of this happening, but W saw oppurtunity to get england involved.
he called for all major powers of europe to settle their differences and live under 'universal peace'.
over two dozen countries signed, which committed them to avoid war or risk being attacked by the rest of the signers.
W arranged each country sign treaty sepeartly with england: brought immediate fame to H8. However, C5 becoming emperor wrecked their plans. He now had lands which virtually surrounded france, which threatened Francis' quests for glory and french control in italy.
C5 inherited his grandfathers commitment of control over italy, currently in french hands. war was only a matter of time.
