        Where is this training taking place? Will it be in a conference room, virtual meeting, or in the break room?
        
        When is this training being delivered? During a a formal training or presented briefly at the start of a shift?
        
        Lastly, determine the what. What is the budget of this training/project? Are you constrained by financial resources, time, or space? (Clark & Lyons, 2011)
- - - - Keeping in mind the prior knowledge of learners and the mental load accompanying new concepts or information when creating your graphics (Clark & Lyons, 2011). If you can assume that there is a baseline of knowledge on a given topic, providing a brief refresher and jumping into the new material may provide less of a mental load on a learner as opposed to reiterating information hold in their long term memory (Clark & Lyons, 2011).

- - - - What type of message do you want the graphic to display? Another way to think of this is, what should the tone of this graphic be?
        
        Is it a serious topic (e.g. sexual harassment), a company branded message (e.g. to announce a policy change), or a morale boosting event (e.g. to improve sales)? Use your graphics to help convey the tone of the training.
- - - - The communication function of graphics are decorative, representational, mnemonic, organizational, relational, transformational, or interpretive (Clark & Lyons, 2011). Each is used to help the learner understand, learn, and apply the lesson in various approaches.
