Solutions for Obesity, The PESTLE factor of this solution would be social…
Solutions for Obesity
Higher sugar tax
- If there is a higher sugar tax put in place on sugary foods and drinks, similar to the sugar tax that was put in place in April 2018, it would likely reduce the amount of money spent on sugary items, therefore aiding the fight against obesity.
- The PESTLE factors that are relevant to the higher sugar tax are Economical, and Political. This solution would be political because it would have to be put in place by the government, and would be economical as it is impacting money and income.
- The positives of this solution would be that it would reduce the amount of people that buy highly sugary food/ drink, therefore aiding the reduction of obesity. The negatives of this solution would be that it would not reduce the amount of people who suffer from obesity in a short period of time, and might not even stop people from spending their money of the sugary items.
Calorie Tracking
- If people are influenced to track their calories and find out what they have to do to battle their obesity and improve their quality of life, the global issue is sure to be reduced in a shorter period of time than it would be with most other solutions.
- The PESTLE factor that this solution is based around is Technological. This is because the easiest way to track calories would be using apps such as MyFitnessPal, which has a very easy and user friendly layout. The app also useful as it tells the user the macronutrients and the calories that they should be consuming to achieve their goal.
- The positives of this would be that it is aids the obese population to take pride in their diet and cut down to a weight that is healthy for them. The negative side of this solution is that not everyone is motivated enough to eat the appropriate food to keep their body healthy.

-
- The PESTLE factor of this solution would be social as it is based around spending time with people who share the common goal. This may be one of the factors that motivate the people into achieving their goals.
- The positive of this solution would be that fitness centres are a lot more accessible by people with a desire to cut down on obesity. A negative side to this solution may be that people might not be interested in losing weight or training to improve their body
- A lot of the time, the food that is cooked by schools and colleges for the students is deep fat fried, not very nutritious and full of empty calories. So if schools were to provide healthier food for the younger generation it would reduce obesity in young people, therefore reducing it in the population.
- The PESTLE factor of this solution would be political as the action would probably have to be put in place by the government.
- The positive side effect of this solution would be that more young people would eat healthier, less empty calorie dense foods that would aid the reduction in obesity. A negative side effect of this solution could be that younger people may be stubborn and decide to take their own food to school to remain unhealthy, however regardless of this happening there would be more young people eating healthier food.
