Pathogenesis of diarrhea
Animal ingest feed contaminated with pathogen.
Entry of pathogen through oral route.
Pathogens move along GIT toward predilection site by passing immune defense mechanism.
Pathogen binds to the receptors of enterocytes in the small intestine.
Pathogen gain nutrients and proliferate.
Pathogen release toxins and causes injury to the enterocytes.
Enterocytes undergo degeneration, atrophy & necrosis
Gross : Ulceration of the mucosa of the intestinal wall
Histological : Sloughing off of the apical part of villi + pyknotic/karyorrhexis/karyolysis of epithelial cell
Sloughing off of enterocytes from the villi.
Inflammation response is triggered.
