SETS
-
Venn Diagram
EXAMPLE: Let's represent the set A = { a, b, c } with Venn diagram.
-
-
Universal Set
The set selected to contain the elements of all the sets on which the operation is performed is called the universal set.
For example
Let's write universal sets for the sets A = { 1, 2, 3 } and B = { 5, 12 }.
► E = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12 }
-
► E = { x | 0 < x < 20 , x is an integer }
Properties of Subset
-
-
-
► For sets A, B, and C, A ⊂ B and B ⊂ C are A ⊂ C.
-
Finite and Infinite Set
For Example
► A = { a, b, c, ç } → A is a finite set.
► B = { x | 12 < x , x is an integer } → B is an infinite set.
► C = { x | 1 < x < 33 , x is a natural number } → C is a finite set.
► D = { x | 1 < x < 33 , x is a rational number } → D is an infinite set.
