In the beginning of 20th century, population boomed
Japan was politically unstable as rise of militerisation fueled Japan's expansionist ambitions and aggressive attitudes towards other countires

In 1939, war broke out in Europe
Japan was able to replace declining powers in SEA like French Indochina and British colonies of Malaya and Singapore

On Oct 1941, emperor appointed General and War Minister Tojo as Prime Minister

On 18 Sept 1931, a bomb exploded near the Japanese-owned railway near Mukden
Manchuria turned under Japanese's control, China protested and major powers refused to recognize Manchukuo
Strategically, Manchuria allowed Japan to defend its interest on Korea and expand further into China

Economically, Manchuria contributed source of raw materials and market for Japanese products
Japan then walked out of the assembly and withdrew from the LON, thus LON was ineffective
