THE VIKINGS
They were a band of European sailors left their homeland behind in search of a new world. The Norsemen aboard the wooden ship spied a new land. Half a millennium before Columbus “discovered” America; those Viking feet may have been the first European, who have touched North American soil.
EUROPE AND THE EXPLORATION OF THE WORLD
The colonization of the Americas represented a collision of European and Native
American cultures that had been developing for thousands of years. The Age of Exploration was a period in European history from the early 15th century. Atlantic archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores and Voyages of Christopher Columbus between 1492 and 1502.
THE SILK ROAD
The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes that for centuries were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East from China to the Mediterranean Sea. After the great geographical discoveries in the late 15th – early 16th centuries the overland trade routes fell into decay. This resulted in the decline of the Silk Road at the end of the 15th century.
THE CATHOLIC MONARCHS
The Catholic Monarchs are the title used in history for Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. They ruled independently and their kingdoms retained part of their regional laws. This marriage united both kingdoms, under one crown. Pope Alexander VI (A bestowed the title of “Catholic King and Queen” on Ferdinand and Isabella.
THE FOUR EXPLORATIONS OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS
Famed Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered the "New World" of the
Americas on an expedition sponsored by King Ferdinand of Spain in 1492.

voyage (1492-1493) Columbus reached several Caribbean islands: San
Salvador, Cuba, and Santo Domingo. Columbus returned to Spain in the caravel "La
Niña.

voyage (1493-1496) Columbus discovered the Lesser Antilles went through
Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo. He founded his first city which he named La
Isabela. After Cuba explored and discovered sailing south Jamaica.

voyage (1498-1500) Columbus discovered the island of Trinidad and the mouth
of the Orinoco River in Venezuela. Upon returning to Santo Domingo they took
prisoner by complaints from disgruntled Spaniards with his command. He returned
to Spain in chains, where Queen Elizabeth released him.

voyage (1502-1504) Columbus explored the coast of Central America
(Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama).
