Some audiences might've wanted to complain to Ofcom about the violence and swearing, also the politically incorrect/discriminatory language used against women/ethnicities. The OG script made Gene Hunt was much more rude but they changed him due to fear of complaints.
bell hooks argues that feminism is a struggle to end patriarchal oppression and the ideology of domination. Women as a gender are underrepresented in the police team of the 70's, portraying the typical male dominance of police work. This makes Annie feel uncomfortable when Sam tries to get help from Annie in the case with her understanding of psychology. It is clear she is uncomfortable due to her nervous mannerisms. Further evidence of marginalisation of women is shown when Gene Hunt tells Annie to 'trot along now sweetheart', conveying female inferiority to men.
