"Civilwarland in Bad Decline" by George Saunders reflected…
"Civilwarland in Bad Decline" by George Saunders reflected dystopian aspects of Disney parks :
PR Efforts and Public Image Management
Covering up Sam's murder incident of the gang troubling the Foley's
Ended up blaming this on another gang
Played into people's fears
A reflection of how Disney can distort their image to the public in strategic ways
Mr. A, the person in power, threatened his workers in order to cover up what Sam did
Shows a dystopian aspect in that the workers are threatened and not given free will
Can be related back to Disney because worker complaints are suppressed and covered up in order for them to maintain their public image
Source: "USA: Disney criticised for alleged poor working conditions in Disneyland resort"
Granddaughter of Walt Disney accuses Disney of poor working conditions after speaking to Disney workers
The corporation released a statement in response denying these allegations and claiming that they do in fact treat their workers well
He also called it unfair, a misinterpretation, exaggeration and a stunt
Shows dystopian features

Many visitors remain unaware of the horrible conditions that Disney workers are subject to
The company covers this up
Forbes: No. 1 best regarded company
OSHA fines show that workplace deaths and injuries at Disneyland are falsely/incorrectly reported
Has $130 Billion net worth and can easily cover up the conditions and worker injuries/deaths
Even the strike that the workers did not end in their favor

Class Struggle in the Magic Kingdom: 35 Years Since the 1984 Disneyland Strike
Management threatened the strikers with termination
Not much was done at the end of the strike, wages were not increased but they were frozen
This was an attempt to silence the workers and threaten them to bend to the will of the corporation
He is satisfied with what Sam has done and even calls it "important work"
He also protects Sam from law enforcement by getting rid of the evidence
Covering up the murder of the 14 year old boy who stole candy
Sam believed that if he let it go the organization would be perceived as weak and the gangs would return
Chopped off the boy's hand
Mr. A urged the man to let it go because they were "in it together"
Mr. A also told the man that that there was no need to start being moral now since there were the murders of 6 men already hidden
This can reflect the ongoing corruption and secrecy taking place in disney parks
Source: "Class Struggle in the Magic Kingdom: 35 Years Since the 1984 Disneyland Strike"
OSHA fines
Shows how the people in power care more about the image of the organization than being morally right
Can be related to Disney in that Disney covers up how they treat their workers
Mr. A was aware of Sam's troubling past before he hired him yet put people at risk because of this
Shows how Mr. A kept using excuses to allow Sam to keep acting dangerously and not have anyone speak out about it (the workers)
The second murder that took place
Really bothered the worker but could not speak out
Can show how the Disney organization is willing to compromise what is seen as morally correct in order to maintain their public image
Workers are subject to nightmarish conditions yet Disney is able to hide this from the vast majority of the public
They do this through numerous ways
"He asks if I've seen the droves of unemployed huddled in front of Personnel every morning."
Threaten of termination
"What's done is done," he says. "We're in this together. If I take the fall on this, you'll eat the wienie as well.
Threaten with jail
When Disney workers went on strike they were also threatened
Covering up the murder of the bird watching group
Mistaken by sam to be gang members
Sam is in a craze of shooting
He even shoots the mans son
This pushes the man to come forward about Sam's actions once again
After this Mr. A continues to defend Sam in order to protect the organization's public image
"What I'm primarily saying," he says, "is that this is a time for knowledge assimilation, not back-stabbing. We learned a lesson, you and I. We personally grew."
:
He asks if I've gone daft, and suggests I try putting food on the table from a jail cell while convicts stand in line waiting to have their way with my rear.
Each time the man has thought about coming out with the secrets about what Sam has done, he threatens him and suppresses his free will
They were stereotyped and shot
described as "chicano teens"
The man yelled "gangs"
Illusion of a Dystopia as a Utopia
Disney can be seen as an illusion of a Utopia but in reality a Dystopia
Worker Treatment + Covering this up from the public
Covering up violence and corruption from the public
Disney has their own police force
All statements accusing of bad things going on are quickly renounced
This is shown in evidence in other areas of the map
The covering of all of the murders that took place could also be related to how Disney's dark, controversial past is covered
Walt Disney
Nazi sympathizer allegation
Hosted Nazi filmmaker
Disney supposedly attended Nazi meetings
His vision is supposedly happy and magical but was it really?
Can be related to how Mr. A in the story just wanted it to be a place for people that he loved to enjoy
Said this yet allowed murders of innocent people to take place/a highschooler who stole candy
