Plight of poor - Tud. struggled unable to solve - pop increased so pressure on land, food prod + prices

Diff. for people in work - wages failed to rise w/ food prices - landless poor hit cos they didn't have monasteries to care for them
Hungry, pov.-stricken + able body peasants became vagrants as they were searching for work - some went to crime to feed family, many were law-abiding
Wealth + Social Mobility
Wealth creation + increase in soc. mobility evident in towns - rise of urban elite of burgesses, merchants built on trade
Wealth of urban increased, so did power. Monopolised municipal office, controlled parl. elections + governed towns + largely independent of royal/noble control
Gained pol. voice in parl. - invested wealth in rural areas. Burgesses became country squires + joined landowning elite. Soc. mobility gradually turned into soc. integration - through marriage w/ old landed elites + townsmen
