Identity Through Culture
Product Ideas/Propositions: I would like the product I create for her to be unique and not extremely popular.
Russian "Matryoshka" Dolls: These unique dolls are beautiful toys that are a key figure in Russian culture. They are world renowned, yet not many people understand their beauty. They are nest dolls that hold several inside.
Traditional Chinese Food: Recipe Book: I love Chinese food, and my proposed client Saanvi is a food fanatic! By creating a short recipe book on Chinese Food and some background information on Chinese culture, I will be able to help my client understand Chinese culture better. Saanvi is also a great baker hence I believe she will appreciate me compiling a recipe book for her to learn about cooking.
Target Audience: My target audience would be Yashada Khanna and believes that she is losing touch with cultures from all over the world.
Yashada is in the same age group as me, hence I will be able to understand her thought process and figure out suitable product ideas for her.
We are connected through social circles as well as the school environment hence I will be able to communicate and connect with her easily.
I believe that by educating someone from the younger generation on cultural diversity, they will be able to spread information on the topic through various platforms and could also showcase their understanding with more ease.
Design Problem: My design problem is lack of cultural diversity and understanding in today's day and age. People are forgetting about the importance of culture and why it is necessary to have an understanding of cultures from all over the world.
Design Problem: The speeding up of Westernisation has caused us to forget about Indian culture and tradition. Nowadays, the world is more inclined towards the western culture and individuals are forgetting about their Indian heritage.
Target Audience: My target audience for this design problem would be my friend, Saanvi, who belongs to my school community.
Saanvi too believes that people, including her are losing touch with Indian culture and her roots. According to my observations and fingings, she loves Western culture but also appreciated the traditionality of Indian culture.
She would also like to refresh her knowledge on the Indian culture and her heritage in order to appreciate her culture more. She thinks that a product relating to this issue will allow her to gain a better understanding of India as a whole.
My client, Saanvi and I have been connected since a very young age hence I am able to understand her as a person and can also think of products that she will like.
SDG: The SDG my problem and ideas are connected to would be that of "Quality Education" which is number three of the 17 goals. I believe that my problem and ideas correspond to said goal as learning about global cultures and the importance of diversity will allow my client to gain quality education on the concept of cultural diversity.
Product Ideas/Propositions: I would like the product I create for Saanvi to be an accurate reflection Indian culture.
Roti Press: Food is a huge part of Punjabi culture hence it is labelled as one of the pillars of Punjab. Rotis are often hard to make in a cicrcular shape hence a roti press would be able to create uniform ones every time! My product would be created on a digital software in order to sho showcase the design idea.
Kondapalli Toys: Kondapalli toys are one of the most popular items from Andhra culture and represents the vibrance and fun in it! By creating a physical Kondapallii Toy, that is traditionally made of wood I think I will be able to bring her inner child back to life while also acting as a show piece.
SDG: I believe that my products and problem correspons to the SDG of "Reduced Inequalities," which is number 10 on the list. Due to cultures like the Indian one being buried under the Westernisation movement, there have been many inequalities that have been formed where people believe that one culture is better than the other when in reality all cultures are equal in nature. By creating a product that showcases Indian culture will help to reduce the belief that certain cultures are better than others through showcasing the unique elements in each culture.
How does this promote international mindedness?: I believe that my product will promote the concept of international mindedness as it will teach my client to appreciate her culture even though we live in a global hib will hundreds of different ones. It will help my client to understand the importance of uniqueness in each color and she will also be able to see and understand how different each culture is.
How does this promote international mindedness? I believe that these products could promote international mindedness as my problem provides scope of information for research on the subject of cultural diversity, which is a large section of international mindedness. My product propositions are based on cultures that my client does not have a deep understanding on yet believes that their uniqueness adds to their beauty. Through my product(s), my client will be able to understand what exactly cultural diversity is and appreciate cultures that she does not have an adequate understanding of.
Client Requirements: I would like my client to be slightly unaware of global cultures throughout the world and they should be wanting to gain an understanding on the importance of cultural diversity.
