Black Codes
In the South, black people were still viewed as inferior and rules (Black Codes) restricted their freedoms (while within 14th ammendment)

- Restricted properties that they could own
Vote restriction
- Could only vote if could read
- Could only vote if ancestor voted before 1967 (only could vote in 1870
- Lynching became more common
Reconstruction Era was great! 90% of black men voted and racial tension was at an all time low. Then the Jim Crowe laws encouraged segregation and racism

Lasting food shortages
Huge poverty and rioting after plan Anaconda cut off food, medicines, trade and money from the south.

- Women were left to care for farm/plantation alone

- Cotton industry crashed as there was no trade with the southern cotton plantations
- Industries making uniforms and weapons did very well.
- Higher taxes and a bit of inflation (kept low due to low payed workers - women+kids)
