Big Idea:
How has family life changed or remained the same over time?
Focus Questions:
What are some similarities and differences from your grandparents, parents, and your childhood?
Who are members in your family?
What does family mean?
Inquiry Model
5E model
Explain
- Students explain what family is. Students draw members of their family or make them using playdough.
Elaborate
- Students must ensure they include the similarities and differences from generation to generation in their picture. Students write what some differences and similarities are.
Explore
- Using dress ups, students experience what it would have been like to wear outfits from past generations. Ask students to bring items from their parents of grandparents that could generate interest and help explain the differences in family life.
Evaluate
- With this new information, students think about what it would have been like to live in previous generations. Students consider which generation they would like to live in and why.
Engage
- Show students pictures from past generations and generations today. Discussion about what students see and discuss their own family dynamics (siblings, parents, grandparents etc).
